You’re on the spot

Today was another day of the Seattle Young Artists Festivals. I was so proud of how my students played but some of them did get tripped up by the judge’s questions. From now on I’ll remember to better prepare them to answer questions like these:
What key is this piece in? What’s this chord? What’s a cadence? What do you know about the composer? What are the performance practices of this period? What does this musical term mean? What’s the mood? What does this section remind you of? If this was a movie music, what’s the movie? When they failed to answer the questions today they always sneaked a peek at me which said, “yikes I know you already told me that or what is he talking about? or You’re going to kill me right?
